Rublev Lounge: A Masterpiece of Constructivism by M+R Interior Architecture

Revolutionizing Airport Lounges with Russian Craftsmanship and Sustainable Design

Immerse in the story of Rublev Lounge, a unique airport lounge that blends Russian constructivism, sustainable design, and traveler's wellbeing. This award-winning design by M+R Interior Architecture redefines the concept of airport lounges.

M+R Interior Architecture, a renowned design team, drew inspiration from the constructivism movement for the Rublev Lounge. This artistic and architectural philosophy, originated by Vladimir Tatlin in Russia in 1913, was a rejection of autonomous art. The movement, which influenced the world with artists like Tatlin and Kazimir Severinovitsj Malevitsj, was the foundation for the lounge's design.

The Rublev Lounge stands out with its unique constructivism-inspired design. The lounge features beautifully shaped union towers that serve as eye-catchers, creating different zones within the lounge area. With a total capacity of 460 seats, the lounge offers various seating options for dining, working, and relaxing. The lounge is marked and separated with three union-formed frames with specially printed carpet.

The lounge was realized using special shaped domes with wood construction, wooden slates wall finishing, and a terrazzo floor. It also boasts the longest food line in the world, a record recognized by the Guinness World Book of Record. The lounge was designed for Sheremetyevo VIP at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, with the project realized in June 2018.

The design team, including architects Hans Marechal and Bart Diederen, and designers Anuschka Marechal, Emy Liebregts, Anja Romme, and 3D designer Pim Rongen, ensured the lounge's design was not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. The lighting concept of the lounge is dynamic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that changes with the time of day. The materials used in the lounge, including marble, steel, copper, glass, and wood, are all natural and sustainable products from the surroundings of Moscow.

The Rublev Lounge project started in September 2016, with the construction of the new airport lounge taking place from 2017 to 2018. The lounge opened in July 2018. The design team faced the challenge of creating a contemporary design for a business lounge that was inviting and transparent, yet personal, warm, and welcoming. The result was a lounge that reduced stress and promoted wellbeing.

The Rublev Lounge was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the lounge's remarkable level of excellence and its ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
